“Advanced Search”

Customers can use the alterations of the internal search functionalities independently of their chosen salesforce edition. One part of this new functionality has automatically been activated by the update of spring 2007. For instance the “Advanced Search” which is available by using the link below the column for the normal search. Unlike the normal search, the “Advanced Search” additionally scans notes, case comments or assets.
 

Clearly arranged search results

The new release facilitates to adapt the search results so that every user may have rapid access to important pieces of information. The administrator has the possibility to preselect ten criteria for the search layouts of the single objects. It is recommended to define these criteria together with the users in order to guarantee the availability of all the information they require.

In the upper section of the search results, references concerning the result list of the single object including a specification of the number of results can be found. Dynamic result lists enable a fast navigation between the results (without the need to reload a new site), even if more than 25 results (25+) occur. If the process lasts nevertheless too long, it can be interrupted by pushing “Cancel”.
 


The user can get even faster to the desired results if the sorting function (e.g. accounts respecting the date created) or certain filters prepared by the administrator (e.g. respecting the country) are applied. Search results can be sorted concerning single objects by clicking on an appropriate criterion in the header of this object.

For administrators:
Filters and search layouts can be set up under:
Setup --> Customize --> wanted object --> Customize layout of fields on search results and lookup dialogs
If the filters are once set up, they can easily be adapted right within the search results (Customize --> Filters). Therefore, authorities of administrators are necessary.

Another new search functionality

“Limit to items I own.”
This function is available for all users and enables the excluded account of search results belonging to the searching user.
Caution! After having set up this function, it will persist until the end of the salesforce-session unless it is manually reset.
 

Confine your search on a single object
With the help of the select list above the search gap, it is possible to search for a single object. This functionality must be activated by an administrator.

For administrators:
Setup --> Customize --> Console --> User Interface

Caution! The object that the last object-related search aimed at remains saved for the next search operation.
